Real member stories

From time to time, we share real member stories to highlight the people behind the journey. This is typically reserved for individuals whose profiles are well-suited to broader visibility — taking into account factors such as compatibility potential, clarity of information, and overall readiness.

These stories reflect someone who has taken a meaningful step toward finding a donor – offering insight, hope, and a reminder that you’re not alone.

Wendy (Pennsylvania, USA)

Organ Required: Kidney

💙 About Wendy

Wendy is actively seeking a living kidney donor and is in a strong
position to proceed with transplant as soon as a suitable match is identified.

Wendy has lived a professional life dedicated to helping others, and is now facing her own health
challenge with strength, insight, and positivity.

Wendy has first-hand knowledge of both the emotional, physical and practical journey of transplantation. This experience has given her a deep understanding of the transplant process and reinforced her belief in the life-changing impact of living donation.

🌍 Location & Logistics

Wendy is based in Pennsylvania. She is able to coordinate her transplant through established centres with which existing relationships are established.

Importantly, modern transplant processes allow for living donor kidneys to be transported between locations, meaning a donor does not need to be in the same geographic area as Wendy. This significantly expands the pool of potential donors while still allowing her transplant to be performed at a preferred hospital.

❤️ Personal Motivation

Wendy is an active person who enjoys swimming, walking, travelling, and spending time with her family.

She recently welcomed her first grandchild and is deeply motivated to return to a full and active life, free from dialysis, so she can be present and involved in these important moments.

📖 In Wendy’s words

For my first kidney transplant, my husband was my living kidney donor. We had our surgeries done robotically and he was discharged the morning after surgery. I was discharged 2 days after my surgery. Our recuperation was excellent and my husband returned to work 5 weeks later.

I am now in need of a second kidney transplant and would like to have a living donor again. A kidney transplant from a living donor has better outcomes than from a deceased donor. Also, the waiting time for a kidney from a living donor is usually quicker than the waiting time for a kidney from a deceased donor.

I am a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing… I worked 41 years…  when I had to retire early due to my health issues. For 34 of my 41 years as an RN, I was an operating room staff nurse and then had a management position in the operating room… I loved working as an RN and caring for patients undergoing surgery was my passion. I was extremely disappointed when I retired early because of my kidney failure.

I am in stage 5 kidney disease and my kidney function is 6%. I have been on dialysis since January of 2026. I am hoping and praying that I will receive a kidney soon and not need to rely on dialysis any longer. I am a very active person. I thoroughly enjoy swimming laps, walking, bike riding, traveling, and spending time with my family. My only grandchild was born in January of 2026, and I would like to enjoy being with her and babysitting her without being on dialysis anymore.

I would be grateful if you would consider donating a kidney to me so I can resume my normal active lifestyle. Thank you.
